A long-time member of the Ludwig Center at MIT, the Gertler Laboratory studied the molecular mechanisms underlying tumor cell invasion and metastasis. Professor Gertler identified key regulators of cytoskeletal dynamics and cell adhesion that contribute to tumor progression and metastasis. Using cell and mouse modeling approaches, his group uncovered mechanisms by which bi-directional signaling between tumor cells and their microenvironment impacts metastasis and resistance to therapy.
